If you are new to our blog - it's best to scroll to the bottom, go to 'older posts' and start at the first page. There are only (3) pages or so ... and read from the bottom up.
Guatemala Team to Boot (for those detailed readers) came from a synonym of 'too.' No one likes to be called team '2', right? So we started as team 'too.' But we quickly looked through our possible substitutions and found 'to boot.' : - )
Oh, by the way - are you part of the family? www.needhim.org

Final Pictures
La Fey
Note to self: you can actually title these blog posts. Cool. Second note to self. Why did it take 47 blog posts before I figured this out?
Most likely the highlight of our trip, at least to me, was our group visit to a remote school called 'La Fey.' Our team was a bit on the ropes, physically (battling) not feeling well, but we divided into (3) groups. The first group led by Reed hit the soccer field and played some soccer & parachute games with the kids. The second group led by Diana & Juliana did crafts and the last group which had a number of our kids with Jennifer, Kristin & Julie did a type of carnival. Enjoy the pictures - and just rejoice in the smiles on these wonderful kids' faces. PTL.

Below are the soccer games; the school is located right in the middle of an agricultural area and we had a friendly nearby cow share in the fun as well.

The kids here are lined up waiting on the carnival games.

Here Teressa leads the kids through 'who is your King' and their eyes really brightened when the Kubis' family gave the jerseys to for their soccer teams.
Last picture is 'teacher to teacher' appreciation from my lovely bride.
Batman Tryouts:
In Hollywood to star in most movies you first have to demonstrate that you have the 'right stuff.' So - we were working our way down from Eagles Nest and saw a sign "Batman tryout's today." So - being the adventuresome group that we are - we did. Since Bat Man is an action movie - they chose a ZIP LINE as the introductory test.
Below Jennifer is taking the opportunity for a photo op with the producers ... vying for this leading role.
http://www.theadventurestravel.com/tours-guatemala-canopy-natural-reserves.html is the link to the park where we were.
Enjoy - there is even a rare VIDEO at the bottom of this spot. I cannot recall which of the girls did the filming ... all I overheard was bragging that they could do a zip line with only one hand while they captured the video with the other hand. Hollywood really brings out the competitive spirits.

Jeff playing with kids (pushing gently) - he's such a gentleman. Teressa, however, is also "playing" with kids ... except it looks more like some type of blood sport (OK - just dodge ball). Anyway, Teressa did win after we took all of the wounded kids (totally kidding) off of the battlefield.
The rumor of 'dodge queen' Teressa quickly spread among people of the island - the last picture shows our kids finding safe places to hide from the dodge balls. You can see Chad up top has the most respect for her.

Below are some pictures from Antigua. Jennifer is about to go hunting in the local shops and delve into full combat gear (look real close and you'll see she's already bagged some small game) ... and 'Guatemala fever' has unquestionably hit the kids in this pose as the 'poison' hits their blood streams (or maybe that's just sugar from the milk shakes).
The blog wouldn't be complete without a good tuk tuk photo.

Here are some other pictures of the team in action
Pastor Chris - are you reading? Well your daughter is a hero. It's just that simple. A large truck (actually a tuk tuk) came flying by the market at high rates of speed (about 10 mpg) and hit a boulder (small rock she's holding) which turned this normally static object into a speeding deadly weapon. The rock was projected right at a small baby sitting on the road (OK - so there wasn't really a baby involved at all ... but it sounds good). Anyway, the boulder (small rock) was propelled at high speed and your brave daughter ran, jumped, and took a long lunging dive over a high wall to save the sure-fatal projectile from it's intended target. Well - it was something like that. Or maybe the tuk tuk propelled the stone and it hit your daughter on the leg. : - ) She's fine - but it does make for a great story.
JAVA. What more needs to be said? This was +++ obviously +++ a very difficult picture to take since we've been working tirelessly from sun up to sun down.
We also visited the local market - what an experience that was. At the market you can buy **ANYTHING** ... hats, shoes, fish, corn, leather, and as this picture depicts - livestock. Our kids mouths dropped as they saw all of the animals in the market.
Lauraleigh's first question to me - can we take one home.
The thought of being detained by airport security flashed through my head ... and then phoning family and friends at home in NC to hear "you tried to take WHAT on the plane" ....
